30 Years of Changing Lives

On Friday 14th June there was an amazing event to mark 30 years where Wheels for Martins Friends has been able to change people’s lives.

Over 90 players joined The Golf day at John O ‘Gaunt Golf Club in Sandy.

Special Guests were Invictus Games medal winner Daniel Bingley who played golf on the day and showed the 3 medals from the Games in Sydney. Jack Gower a young wheelchair racer who broke his personal best by over 9 mins in this year’s London Marathon, amazingly coming 2nd in the under 14 boys category. And Jamie Green a wonderful comedian who performed in front of the 100 guests packed into the Celebration Dinner, he had the room filled with laughter.

Other players include 2 forces Neil Garfoot and Steve Bingley who represented the OnCourse Foundations who support the recovery of wounded, injured and sick Service Personnel and Veterans through golf and employment in the golf industry.

This local not for profit charity raise money for the provision of wheelchairs and other mobility equipment for disabled people within the North Hertfordshire, North Bedfordshire and South Cambridgeshire region. By organising Golf days and other events they’ve been helping people since 1996, this small group is based in the village of Guilden Morden, near Royston.

Anglia TV was quoted as saying “this is a fantastic group of people doing wonderful things for people of all ages, what dedication and spirit to keep it going every year for 30 years amazing”

Without the kind support of many local company’s this event would not have been possible, special thanks go to the main sponsors BT and the MyDonate Team and the Motorvogue dealership group for KIA, Jeep, Seat, Alfa Romeo who continue to sponsor “win a car” hole-in-one competition and other fantastic prizes.

Sadly no one won the car but they had great fun trying. The event is expected to have raised over £12,000
